Sheila Swete-Evans Papers, 1889-1988.

Collection (03-015) comprises one diary and several commonplace books maintained by Swete-Evans to document her experiences, including during her naval service (1929-1988). Volumes contain black-and-white photographs, newspaper clippings, poetry, and other personal records. Also includes one scrapbook (1889-1936) kept by her father, William B. Swete-Evans, a physician and soldier in the British Army during World War I. This volume provides a record of his family and social lives, as well as travels to places including Germany, Turkey, Egypt, and Palestine. Acquired as part of the Sallie Bingham Center for Women's History and Culture.
